Great New Giveaway: 1965 Tri-Power GTO

Originally owned by Pontiac Motor Division as a corporate-use car, the grand-prize 1965 GTO you can enter to win is a genuine, first-generation muscle car with a Tri-Power 389ci engine, a four-speed manual transmission, Positraction and other high-performance options.
Fully restored to concours condition and awarded the Pontiac-Oakland Club International Points-judged Gold award, you’ll want to get your tickets early and often for this power-packed grand prize.
Now let’s test your GTO knowledge:
1. Name the Pontiac executive who took a pre-production GTO home and his friends asked to borrow it so many times that he knew it would be an instant success?
2. What two famous 1960s hit sit-coms featured GTOs on a regular basis?
3. What exotic vehicle was the Pontiac GTO named after?
4. What was the GTO’s nickname?
5. What famous song was named after the GTO and who sang it?
And here are the answers:
1. John Z. DeLorean, then chief engineer of Pontiac and later its general manager.
2. You probably guessed “The Monkees,” and you’re right. The second answer is a tad bit harder so congratulate yourself if you remembered that “I Dream of Jeannie” featured a GTO (as Major Anthony Nelson’s daily driver.)
3. The Ferrari 250 GTO.
4. Another easy one as the GTO had many nicknames; the most famous being “The Great One,” but also “The Tiger,” “The Humbler,” and, of course, “The Goat!”
5. “G.T.O.” by Little Ronnie and the Daytonas.
Now America’s original muscle car can come home with you.

Charity Spotlight: New Beginning Children’s Homes

Here is the story of one child who has not been afforded the opportunity to focus on the trivial aspects of her life. You see, Sarah’s life has been filled with heartbreak, abuse, and neglect. Sarah never got to worry about being the popular girl in school. She never focused on sleep-overs with friends, or ice cream for dessert. Sarah worried about a safe home, three meals per day, and finding a family that would love her.
We were fortunate to receive Sarah into one our homes in 2014. Sarah learned a lot in her two years with New Beginnings. She learned that regardless of what she did, her house parents would never leave her. She learned that she would never go to bed hungry again, nor would she ever have to worry about finding the love she craved in a family. We were fortunate to stand alongside of Sarah as she rode the rollercoaster that her life had become. We stood next to her as she waited by the phone each week, hoping her biological mother would call. We held Sarah as she cried, when her family didn’t show for their weekly visitation. We celebrated her successes in school as she made honor roll, and sang in the choir. Unfortunately, we also stood next to Sarah as she sat in the courtroom the following year, as the judge terminated her biological family’s parental rights.
Sarah taught us a lot in turn. She reminded us that love was possible, when hope seemed so far from reach. Sarah continually reminded us of our mission to serve at all costs, as we fought for the best outcome in her case. Ultimately, we were able to celebrate with Sarah when she was notified that a distant relative would be adopting her. We comforted her fears as she packed her bags, to move across country. She was finally getting the family she always dreamed about. We said goodbye to Sarah in early 2016.
Fast forward to mid-2017, we received word that Sarah’s distant relative was dying from cancer and could no longer care for her. In turn, Sarah would be returning to the Arkansas State Foster Care system. In an instant, the family she desired was becoming a distant memory. Again, Sarah was faced with the fear of the unknown for her future. During the processing of her transfer paperwork, Sarah made one request, “Can I please go back to New Beginnings? I know they love me there.”
The thousand miles back to Arkansas, will be the last time Sarah will experience the fear of loneliness again. My friends, Sarah might be broken, but she is far from shattered. Sarah represents the symbol of strength that comes behind a child determined to find a family. This search will continue to drive her desire for happiness and stability. New Beginnings welcomed Sarah back with open arms. Sarah returned to the very home she once lived, within New Beginnings. Sarah was welcomed into the loving arms of the same house parents that embarked on the initial journey with her.

As you navigate through your daily lives, we encourage you to take the time to consider the lives of those you are surrounded by each day. Remember that Sarah represents only one of thousands of children in state foster care seeking hope, love, and a family.
Whether 10 or 1,000 miles stand before you, remember that these miles represent the end of a chapter, and the opportunity to influence the closing of another child’s book.
