GTO Trunk Space More Than an SUV Cargo Space?

By Christopher R. Phillip

One of the comments that the younger guys at Dream Giveaway Garage had when the 1965 Pontiac GTO arrived here for a giveaway was, “Man that muscle car has a big trunk.”

That’s because today’s cars don’t have trunks like the cars of the 1960s. Heck, even the Mustang, Camaro and Firebird had baby trunks.

But not the GTO. It had a full-size trunk.

So exactly how big is its trunk?

If you remember cars from the 1960s and 1970s, putting a full-size spare tire into one was super easy. The GTO is no exemption.

One of these days, we’re going to see how many full-size wheels and tires we can fit in there, but for today, we’ll measure it in old-school paper grocery bags.

It looks to us, that you can fit 40 paper grocery bags filled with groceries, of course.

40 filled grocery bags — will today’s full-size SUVs even accommodate that much.

So if a SUV is taking up space in your garage, let it know it’s going outside if you win the 2018 GTO Dream Giveaway brought to you by Ames Performance Engineering.
